Your lovely lady lumps feeling tender?

Of course you know what I'm talking about. Each month your wonderful Aunt Flow shows up. If you lucky, there are no problems. But if your unlucky like me, your in pain. 1 week before the "Aunt Flow" I get sore and tender breast. Its very painful and nothing I do helps it. I also have FBC or fibrocystic breast changes. In the last year Ive had to run to my doctor due to finding a lump on my breast. Its very scary and no fun at all. Well I was watching TV and this commercial came on. They were talking about FBC and how you can help it. There is a new product called Sensiva. I heard "hollalooya" from the choir in my head. Is this possible? Could this be my day? Will I have no more tender breast anymore? Well I don't know. But now there's hope.

Sensiva is only available in Oregon and Texas. Sorry ladies! This is a drink product and you only need 1/2 cup a day. Company says it takes 2 menstrual cycles to start working. Why you ask? Omega-6 fatty acids take time to get into your body's membranes. Key nutrients are GLA (Gamma-Linolenic acid) which is a anti-inflammatory, Selenium which is a antioxidant, and Iodine which reduces breast pain. One serving has only 100 calories so there will be no weight gain. Only side effects noted is gastrointestinal complaints. Hmm.. I'm not sure about this. But you know, if I get rid of my breast tenderness it just might be worth it. Time to stock up on Gas X! This is a non hormonal and lactose free drink. This sounds great to me. I do not like to take medications and would rather take natural alternatives. This product sounds great to me. I will be talking to my doctor about this product before I try it. I will let you know the results in a month or two. All in all this sounds like a great product that could really help me. Its the only product i've ever heard of and answered my wishful thinking.

BONUS-A 32 oz container of Sensiva is only $9.99. Wait till it goes on sale and use your coupon and get it possibly for free or almost free. Also you can print the coupons twice. Just hit the back button after its printed the first round of coupons. Only allows to print it twice.

Check out their website http://mysensiva.com/
Print out $20 in savings here https://mysensiva.com/buy-sensiva/get-coupons
Read all the FAQ's here http://mysensiva.com/faq/

Note:Website is having issues so I cannot tell you where to find this product to buy it. I would imagine that Walgreen's or Target would have it. I will keep you posted on this. Print out those coupons and keep an eye out.

Local growers spotlight. The Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island Portland Oregon

Why choose local? Its a great question. Well to me its worth the effort to buy local. Not only are you getting fresh produce, but your supporting your local farmers and keeping them employed. Its literally a win win situation. When I was living in St Helen's Oregon, The Pumpkin Patch was my choice for local fresh produce. They were 15 minutes away from my home, and always have the best fresh tasting produce. I moved a few months ago to Portland Oregon but I still migrate back there each week. Yes its a 30 minute drive but its still worth it. My children just love going there and physically picking their food. If you have never been there, just take a day to come visit. Its family friendly and you save a bundle of money. Be sure to bring your camera. Thousands of places to take pictures.
The Pumpkin Patch is located on Sauvie Island off highway 30. They operate on about 700 acres. The sell whole sale and retail fresh market produce. Retail their name is Delta Farms. They have been in business for over 40 years and continues its traditions with the second generation of farmers. The animal barn is my kids favorite. They get to run up the steps and look at all the cute animals. They are open from June to November even on holidays within those months. Open 9am-6pm daily. Every bit of produce goes to a good home. From charities, to customers, to even their animals. Nothing is wasted.
Their website is a great place to find information. http://www.thepumpkinpatch.com/
You can find the following info there.

I find spotted banana's almost every time I visit.

-U Pick produce and Flowers. There you will find a list of whats in season and the best time to pick. These are what we picked yesterday. Wonderful peaches and nectarines. My kids had a blast. Kwyta Recycled Chopstick Art

Chopstick Art by Bryan Parks.
He had a simple idea, collect used chopsticks, sanitize them, and use them to make high quality accents for any one's home. Billions of chopsticks are used each year and 25 million tree's were cut down in the process. This was a opportunity for Bryan.
From wonderful lamps (pictured above), to a plastic bag dryer, and even folding baskets. They have many great products made from wonderful bamboo chopsticks. I have my eye on the plastic bag dryer. I keep, wash and reuse any ziplock type bag that comes my way and this would be perfect. I would SOOOO love it!
Prices range from $9.00-$42.00 so they are pretty budget friendly and would be a wonderful gift for anyone. Just think about it. You are supporting a local company, recycling, and giving gifts all at once.
Shark Tank on ABC didn't know what they let through their fingers. I think we need to support more green companies. This will help keep billions of chopsticks out of the landfills, support for a local business, and inspire so many people to rethink and reuse everyday items. I'm still in shock that those sharks said no. I do believe money is important but I also very strongly believe that we need to support and inspire green companies as well. Somehow we need to meet in the middle.
I don't believe I could of said it any better. Read for yourself.
"

Our Recycled Products

It is important for everybody to do what they can to help our suffering planet. Recycling and buying recycled products is a good start. Our products are made from some of the billions of single use chopsticks that are discarded every year. Using discarded disposable chopsticks is just one example of making recycled products from a resource that would otherwise be waste. Please read more about us, and the impact that disposable chopsticks are having on the environment.

So a message from me to Bryan. "You inspire me." Keep up the good work!

Crazy carrots

These are my crazy carrots. Instead of weeding out the carrots and only letting the good ones grow, I let them all grow. I like my crazy looking carrots the way they are. More interesting for my kids when they eat them. The only problem I have with them is when I'm digging them out. Its no fun, hard work, and frankly hurts my back. But look at them, they are so yummy! Carrots are a parents best friend. They are sweet so kids love them, and very healthy.

Carrots are Vitamin A rich
Carrots are good for your vision
Carrots help fight against heart disease
Carrots help fight against cancer
Carrots can enhance the quality of breast milk
Carrots help improve the appearance of skin, hair and nails.
Carrots can help increase menstrual flow

1/2 cup of carrots have 27 calories, 1 gram of fat, 1 gram of protein, 2 grams of fiber, 45 mg of sodium, 13,418 IU vitamin A, 1mg of vitamin b6 and manganese, 183 mg of potassium, and 10,138 micrograms of carotene's.

You can easily sneak these into any meals. If your children do not like eating a bunch of carrots, just shred them up with any veggies you want. Any muffin recipe you have for zucchini can be altered with carrots instead. You can shred them on top of a salad, or cut them up into lincoln logs and let them play while they eat them. Just give them a tid bit of peanut butter to use as glue. Our favorite way of eating them in steaming them. When you grow your own, they are much sweeter and cook more bright. Or how about pretending you are bugs bunny. Leave the greens on them and talk like bugs bunny. My kids love this.

Eat more carrots!

This is why I garden

Each day I look forward to getting dressed and wandering into the garden to water it. Mostly because my children are inside eating breakfast and I get time for myself to relax and listen to the birds. I find it therapeutic. I feel very lucky that I have a place to grow my own produce. Lucky that I can grow food for my family that's healthy and I know exactly where its been and what has not been put on them. No sprays...No nothing. Just good old organic soil. This is what today's pickings bring us. Some super yummy tomato's, 2 small cantaloupes (testers),
some crazy cauliflower, last bit of green beans and small broccoli heads. Pretty good for one day.

What do you know, they actually grew!!! We have cantaloupe. Very very small ones but hey, the grew!!! As you can see by the picture, they are the size of a large orange. My girls say they are very mild in taste compared to store bought ones. They prefer these over the store bought ones which makes me happy. I cannot complain one bit. Tried them out and they turned out great. Definitely will be growing them from now on. My plant has several more growing so maybe they will get larger. I'm just excited they grew and we were able toe at them. Ive heard several people say they don't ripen up and they gave up on them. Yahoo! I'm excited . (pat on back).

So, have I encouraged you to start your own garden yet? You can start one super easy and cheap. My mother uses 2 tires stacked on each other and filled with super rich soil. I use small containers for my beans at the end of my large raised bed. This way I can move them around if needed. Even someone living on a apartment can have a small garden. Maybe you know someone who has property near you? Ask if you can grow food in their yard and split the profits from it. Garden of free food that they don't have to lift a finger? I'm in! Find a local neighborhood garden, or maybe just a produce stand. Take the first step by doing research and talking to friends and family. Someone somewhere knows something.

My review: HAIR PRODUCTS-I have colored hair and was very skeptical about how my hair would feel after I washed it with this product. Its hard to find a product that will do what it says it will do. First of all I love the smell of these products. They are light and wonderful. Shampoo was so nice and soft and lathered up very nice. The conditioner smelled really nice as well. My sample was very small so I was worried about it being enough. I have very long hair and it takes a bit to condition my hair. Not this time! I used very little and it was enough. I let set for about 1 minute then rinsed. I was able to comb my wet hair with no problems and that in itself is a task. Best thing about this hair product was how my hair felt once dried. My hair feels like it did before I colored it. It is so soft and silky. Not oily at all and my hair felt very light. I am now switching to this stuff. I am still in shock and keep feeling my hair.

Bonus:Their samples are put in 100% recycled paper compartments.

LOTION-After I showered I applied the lotion. It was soft smelling and just the right thickness. I applied it pretty easy and quickly. It made my skin so soft and wonderful smelling. No oily skin afterwards, and my skin didn't feel heavy. I still feel wonderful a day later. My skin feels so amazing and soft. Again I am switching to this product.

Would I recommend these products to you? Yes! Would I recommend this product for your family? Big yes! I forgot to mention the best part of this product. You can find them at any Whole Foods so they can easily be found.

Ways to be earth friendly at school time

I am so proud of my children. We recently went school supplies shopping at our local Target store with a huge list in hand. I was not looking forward to this at all because I thought it was going to be super expensive and really didn't have a big budget for it. But to my surprise, it was very little out of my pocket. Why you ask? Instead of going and buying each item on the list, we went through our craft cabinet and found things we already had. Each year the teachers send home with the kids all that stuff they didn't use or still can be used. Pink erasers, rulers, colored pencils, pencil box's, etc. After we did that, we quickly realized that they only needed a handful of things. Yipee!!!But back to the proud of my children thing. We started browsing the store and looking for those few things we did not have and my children started looking at the Eco friendly selection. Instead of getting the "oh so cool" colored plastic items, they wanted the Eco friendly options. Recycled pencils, binders, etc. I am so proud of my children taking it upon themselves to be earth friendly. This means that all those words Ive thrown out over their little lives have actually sunk in. They do listen!!!
We decided to make a list of the ways we've been more Eco friendly at school time so everyone can learn from us.

Buy used-I start looking for clothes right after they get out of school for the summer. Yep, pretty early but you need time to do this. Start hitting up garage sales, thrift shops, and letting friends and family know you will take any of theirs off their hands. Keep a list of what they need in your purse at all times so you can mark off what you have found and write things you need on it.

Reuse-Go through all your school supplies that your children came home with the last school year. No sense in buying more stuff when you already have it. Keep an eye out for sales, and again ask friends and family if they have something you need. Most the time someone will have it.

After Season Sales-When winter items are being clearanced out at 80-90%, start buying items one size ahead for your children. These can be used for the next season but you pay way less for them. Same goes for school clothes.

School Supplies-Keep an eye out for recycled products. Target has a great little end cap of recycled pencils, pencil cases, folders, etc for only $1 each. Keep a rule when shopping. If it cant be recycled, don't buy it. So choose for paper binders, paper folders, etc.

Eco Friendly Sites
Reusablebags
http://www.reusablebags.com/ A very easy to navigate site to get just about anything you need. From reusable bags, lunch bags, home goods and a huge selection of water bottles. Great site with a great cause. Read up about them, they truly inspire me.

The Rainforest Site
This is a new site I just found. They have one of
a kind items for just about anything you need. Cool bags, jewelry, clothing, gardening, and anything else you could think of. As a special bonus, each time you buy also helps fun habitat preservation. Your shopping helps make a difference.
Speedbinder
This site is great. You can get binders for as low $2.49. From binders, tabs, to inside pockets. I love this site. Binders are made from 100% recycled chipboard and everything else is made from 100% recycled post consumer content. The more you buy, the less they are. Right now they are offering free samples by calling 888-338-0924.

Review:I ordered samples and they came super quick. I received 2 office size binders and 2 smaller personal sized ones. They are super sturdy and can be modified very easily. My daughter is in love with these binders and cant wait for school. These compare to any standard binder you can find but the best thing about them is the fact that they are Eco friendly. We feel good about owning them and will not be getting sick from them. No more plastic for this family, we will be ordering from Earth Binder from now on. Another added bonus:They cost less than plastic competitors. $2.49 is super cheap if you think about it. Plus when your bored with the plain or design that's on it, you can easily change it. Because its recycled chipboard, you can glue anything you want on it. I recommend this company to everyone. Have you checked them out yet?

TerraCycle Inc
I must say, this is one of my favorite companies around. They have everything you can think of and its all made from recycled products. You can help out by 2 ways. One is by sending in product packaging and getting paid some change for each one. The other way is to guy products from them and supporting them that way. You can buy anything from lawn and garden, cleaners, office and school supplies, bags and winter and holiday supplies. Just click on "buy online" at the top right hand corner and they will connect you with a site that sells them.
If you want to order but don't want to pay shipping, Target and Fred Meyers are big sellers of their products. From Eco friendly plant food, to school supplies. Target has $1-$2.99 items by Terra Cycle. Super cheap!!

Homemade Goodness *Basic Granola*

I'm so excited that I can make my own granola now. My husband is a big granola fan and goes through it so fast. I was buying granola for $1.53 per lb at Winco but not no more. I found a recipe that is so yummy and you can add anything you want to it. Plus its super easy to make which makes my life easier. Another bonus is that it cost me about $1 per lb to make it myself.

Basic Granola

3 cups oats
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup of honey
6 tbsp melted butter
Optional:nuts,flax seed, dried fruit, etc.

Melt the butter and put into a bowl. Add brown sugar and honey then stir. Add oats and mix well. This is when you would add any nuts you wanted. My favorite is almonds and ground flax seed. Pour into a cookie sheet covered in aluminum foil. I have a aluminum cookie sheet so I don't need to add foil. Put in oven for 10 minutes, take out and stir. If you wanted to add dried fruit, this is when you add it. Put back in for another 10 minutes. The longer you leave it in, the more crunchy it is. Take out and let cool for 10 minutes or so. Scoop out and your done.

This can be used as granola cereal as is. If you want to make trail mix just add small chocolate chips, and maybe some dried fruit. You basically can add anything you want to this recipe. Sometimes I add a cup of rice krispies, or sometimes I add 1 tsp of vanilla. It depends on my mood and what we have in the house. If you want to cut down on sugar, just add another cup of granola. Have fun with it and let the kids help you.

Hard work pays off

Today I spent a little time in the garden and look what I found. A HUGE zucchini which I must have missed a few times. Oops! This I will shred into 2 cup size containers and put in the freezer for later use in muffins.
My tomato's are going nuts right now. Each day I go out and pick for that nights dinner or my girls will have a snack of them. They taste so yummy and way better than store bought tomato's. I think they are sweeter.
Under them are beans from the size of my house. I have a hedge of bean plants that thrived from neglect. These will be blanched and put in the freezer as well for later use. They taste so yummy this year and in this house the bugs don't eat them up. Yeah!
Broccoli is doing good now. Not exactly giving me huge amounts but something is better than nothing. This type of broccoli is not as good eaten raw for some reason. Only word I can use for it is peppery. ?? But they taste good steamed so cant complain.
Last but not least is my fabulous cauliflower that I am so proud of. Its my first time trying to grow it and best yet I was able to get these free with a Mothers Day coupon I received in the mail. Yahoo! Love free stuff. Not sure when I was suppose to pick it but it looked fine to me. Cant wait to eat it for dinner. Mmmmm!
My beans I had to pull today because they just weren't giving me anymore beans. I also pulled my crook neck squash due to the pesky white mold. I again froze most of it but the rest I gave to all my neighbors. I think I will plant some lettuce in their place and try to get the most of our growing season here in Oregon. My cucumbers are starting to give me something so tomorrow I will take some pics for you. My white cucumber is so pretty and I cant wait to try it. Until next time.....

STOP!

Find yourself broke and need to save money but don't know how? Well here is a list of things you really can stop buying and yes you will survive without them.

1. Aluminum Foil/clear plastic wrap-Hey remember those things called lids? Yes those! Start using them, they were made for a reason. Don't have a lid? Put a plate over your bowl. Not only will you be saving $ but you will also help out the environment.

2. Ziplock bags-Use your dishes to hold food. Invest in reusable bags or just buy old Tupperware from thrift stores. I have not bought Ziplock bags in a year now and I don't miss them at all. They are horrible things that fill out landfills and take forever to break down if not at all. Save money and the environment.

3. Air Fresheners-Really, do you need these? How about picking some herbs from your yard and putting them in a bundle behind a fan. The fan will spread the fragrant oils escaping from the leaves when you touch them. Stop buying those plug in's, powders, and air sprays. They pollute our air, landfills and waste our money.

4. Spice Packets-these are a big waste of money. Buy spices in bulk, and put together your own. This will save you some cash each year.
http://www.recipezaar.com/ type in what spice packet you need (example:Taco seasoning) and there are lots of recipes that have been reviewed for you to try out.

5. Dryer Sheets/softeners-Yes they smell good but you don't need them. Just wash and dry as usual. After about 2-3 times washed (not in a row) and no more static. The static is actually caused by the softeners you put in the clothes.

6. Cut frozen veggies-Yes you can even save money this way. Buy seasonal fruit or veggies for super cheap, take home and cut into pieces, lay flat on cookie sheet, put in freezer for 2 hours, take out and put into freezer safe container. Your done. See how easy that was? And you have extra cash in your pocket. Your welcome! Want instructions? Here you go

7. Brand new anything-Well some things you need to buy new (undergarments) but almost everything can be bought used. From furniture, shoe's, clothes, kitchen gadgets, etc. Go to your local thrift stores or hit up some garage sales. You will save a bundle this way.

8. Cards-Now days cards can cost up to $5 each. That's just plain nuts! How about making a card? All that pretty paper you have saved, put them to use. I love a handmade card from anyone because it shows they took the time to do something for you. Let your kids go nuts making them, it keeps them busy for at least 30 minutes.

9. Cleaners-Make your own. There are hundreds of recipe's out there on the net. Have some vinegar? Add about 2 cupfuls of vinegar to a spray bottle of water. Use this to clean. And no, there is no vinegar smell like you would think. Below are a few ways to get you along.

10. Liquid Laundry Soap-Yes you can make your own and its super easy. Try it out for yourself by following my directions.

11. Your dryer-Really? Are you kidding me? Nope! With a $2 investment you can save yourself up to $20 a month just by doing this easy project.

12. Broth-From chicken to veggie broth, its super easy to make. Don't throw away those bones from your dinner or veggie bottoms and cut offs, take them and follow my instructions.

13. Premade anything-No more frozen food meals, precooked anything or ready to eat anything. From now on make it yourself. This will save you a bundle. Buy from the bulk section and save even more. Make it ahead and freeze it in small freezer safe containers. Just take it out and bring it with you to work or where ever. It will be thawed by lunch time.

14. Fresh Flowers-Start picking flowers where ever you find them. Go to the park and see wild flowers, just pick those. Ask a neighbor if you could pick some of theirs. Yes fresh flowers are pretty but are expensive and die within a few days.

15. Coloring books-These are anywhere from $1-$5 each. When you have more than 1 child, this really Ad's up. Try looking on the web. There are thousands of pages you can just print out yourself.

16. Copy Paper-I do buy once in a while but try to come up with creative ways to get around this. One way I have found is to reuse any paper we receive. My children bring home papers each day and if there is nothing on the back of the paper, its goes back to the copy machine. Just yesterday I printed out a coupon for The Pumpkin Patch and the clerk said "Neat!" because my daughters homework was on the other side. lol. If its standard paper size and blank, you can print on it.

17. Movies-Yes its only $1 each movie to rent but that ad's up quick. Try borrowing from a friend or family member. Maybe a good movie on TV? Try the Internet.
http://www.hulu.com/ has lots of movies for free. Also keep a eye out for free Redbox movie codes. They usually come out on Mondays.

18. Junk Food-Just don't buy it. Its not healthy, cost too much and you just don't need it. Try making your own sweet or salt treat. Refer to #4 , recipezaar has lots of recipe's.

19. Fast food-Again just don't buy it. Ive heard so many horror stories of what people found in their food or have been sick from it. No thanks!

20. Swiffer style refills-You can use a terry cloth for dusting or make your own refill out of fabric. Just use any old sheet or t shirt and cut it to size. Dip in your soap of choice with water, wring it out and then attach like usual. This will save you a bundle. I had the swiffer vacuum that had a filter you needed to replace. Instead I cleaned it after each use, then about once a month I would soak it in hot water and gently scrubbed it clean. Ive yet to replace it. Get creative!

21. Bottled water-Such a waste of money. They have done studies that showed that your own faucet water was cleaner that those bottled waters. Unless you have really hard water and the taste is just bad, drink your own water.

22. Cable or satellite-We stopped ours 6 months ago and its saved us $300 already. I like that money in my pocket! We found we were watching so much TV because we were paying for it. Now we rarely watch TV and if we do its usually public broadcasting. Now days there is more than 5 channels. We have about 20 channels to choose from including a kids toon channel.

23. Soda-its just not a needed thing. Too much sugar and not at all healthy. Once you kick this habit, you will feel much better.

24. Want items-I want something salty...or I am craving something sweet. These "I wants" add up and are not needed. From now on only buy what you need.

25. Driving-If its within a mile or two from you, just walk. You will save a bundle on gas this way. Plus you get lots of exercise. It also gives you family time.

26.Paper towels or napkins. if one family of four switched to fabric ones at each meal for one year, this green step would prevent 4,380 paper napkins from ending up in our trash.

27. Disposable plates and cutlery-Just use what you have and wash them when your done. If you have to buy them, check Whole Foods in their eco friendly selections. Prices are the same but way better for your environment.

28. Mouthwash-To make your money stretch, use Hydrogen Peroxide instead. This has been a little secret that most people have never heard of. Just use like your usual mouthwash and it will freshen your breathe and whiten your teeth. Plus its only $1.

29. Books-How about that good old library? Yeah that place. They are free books! Did you also know that you can check out movies, magazines, and much much more? Try it out!

30. Internet-What? Did you just say what I think you said? I know...what is wrong with me? Have I gone nuts? Well Ive been nuts but that's beside the point. lol. Yes you can live with out Internet. Libraries have public computers for you to use, just call your local library and get the details. I have a friend who cut Internet to save money and its been about 6 months now. And she is still alive! You can still pay bills, check emails and do research. Its not the most convenient thing but they save $10-$20 a month by doing this.

31. Hair Salon's-Lets think about this.....$50-$100 to get your hair dyed or $3-$12 to do your own? I choose to do my own hair and I only pay $3 every 2 months. I've been doing this since highschool and know what colors look good on me and which ones don't. I am amazed how much people pay now days to get their hair done. Maybe you can barter with a friend who does hair. Babysit for them and they do your hair...Or maybe give them a deal at your work for some services at the salon.

32. Pay to play places-Those places you pay a small fee to let your kids play on their play equipment can get spendy. Sure its only $5 a kid, but that add's up very quick. How about email your friends and meet up at a favorite park. Kids will love playing on any play structure as long as their friends are there. I have 4 daughters and thats $20 a pop just for my kids to play for a hour or two. Its just not worth it to me. I just dont have that kinda money for them to play. Luckily my girls have been invited to birthday parties at these places so they do get to go there. I also have a friend who sometimes invites me and was able to get my girls in for free. We appreciate everytime this happens.

33. Cupcake papers-Sounds silly but these things add up too. They cost $1-$2 per package and just get thrown away. You can use butter or any oil to slather the inside of your pan, add the batter and then just pop them out once they are cooled. Plus they look oh so rustric! Save a tree too!

34. Colored sprinkles-You can make your own by using some food dye. Just get a small bowl, add some sugar, and then add a drop of food dye at a time. Just mix well with a fork and add enough dye to get the desired color. This alone will save you $2.

35. Microwave Popcorn-Not only is this stuff very unhealthy, but it gets expensive. You can make your own popcorn by using a large pot, oil, and popcorn kernals. Or you can do what I did. I found a old school vintage air popper at a garage sale for $1.50. This was a very good investment for me. No oils to pop it, and we can add what ever seasoning we want. Plus it smells the house up with wonderful popcorn smell.

36. No bone meat-yes its easier to cook when you can just flop the meat in the pan but did you know you pay way less for meat on the bone? You can find chicken for as low as 99 cents per pound when its a whole chicken? And its even less when you find it in the markdown section. Just take home, pull out the not so pretty stuff on the inside (already cut out heart, kidney etc) and give them to the dog or cat. Then put in the oven for 1 hour at 400 degree's. Once done you will be able to take all the meat off super easy plus it will be soft and melt in your mouth yummy. You can just freeze what you cannot use and use it for another meal. All meats are this way. So try it out and save yourself some money.

37. Boxed oatmeal-These really do add up. My kids use 2 packets per breakfast, that's 8 packets each morning, and that's adding up. So I buy oats in the bulk section for 50 cents per pound. It takes about 2 cups to make breakfast for my kids and that only cost me about 10 cents. They just add brown sugar, or fresh fruit, or some homemade jelly. Super easy and cheap.

38. Broth-Instead make your own. Vegetable broth can be made with just the ends you cut off to put in the compost. Meat broth can be made from any animal bones left over from a meal. Just put the bones or veggies in a pot, add water till it covers the bones or veggies, and boil for about 20 minutes. Drain bones or veggies out, and use reduced broth for any meal. Yummy! Broth from the store is $1 a can and you need 2 cans to do anything. Make your own for free!

39. Drinks-Really need to save money? Stop buying milk, juice, soda, or just about anything. Just drink water. Not only is this good for you but its super cheap when your drink tap water. Maybe add some mint from the garden, or even some lemon balm leaves.

40. Medicine's-Well not everything of course. But the simple ones like cough syrup can be avoided. What we do in our home is this. Adults 2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar and 1 tsp honey two times a day. Kids 1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar and 1 tsp honey 2 times a day. ACV (apple cider vinegar) is a antibacterial for your body and honey keeps the throat coated and prevents the cough. This saves us a bundle and my kids dislike the taste of any cough syrup. If you can buy organic unfiltered unpasteurized apple cider vinegar but store brand will do in a pinch.
Also for congestion use a bowl full of warm water and a drop of lavender oil and eucalyptus oil. Simply get a wash rag and dip it into water then wring out the water. Place this warm rag on your chest when you go to bed or when you lay down. If you have trouble with a stuffy nose, put warm rag over your nose and take a couple of breathes. This will prevent dry cracking noses and help clear them up.

I started not buying these things to save money but soon realized I truly didn't need these things and have not bought any of them ever sense. You will feel good about helping the environment and happy to have that money back in your pocket where it should be.

ACV your new best friend

ACV, also known as Apple Cider Vinegar, is truly amazing. I wish I knew about this amazing thing years ago. It all started when I had a girly issue a couple of months ago. Instead of going to my doctor or to the store to get over the counter med's, I decided on researching natural remedies for it. Ive done the creams before and they have worked but I wanted to be more natural with my body. ACV was the common natural remedy that kept coming up. What could vinegar do? Well you would be amazed. Its not only for girly remedies, but its for just about anything you can think of. But don't take my word for it, do some research yourself and see. Here are a few benefits Ive found on the net and have used myself.
Disclaimer:Always contact your doctor with any problems you may have. I am not a doctor, I am only giving advise on things I myself have tried. It is your choice to try these out.

Need a sample? Bragg Live Foods gives samples of ACV and much more!

To read up a bit about ACV, check out Earth Clinic Remedies

Where to buy? Well any apple cider vinegar will do in a pinch. I started off by buying just the store brand type for about a buck. It worked but didn't taste all that good. I found Certified Bragg raw apple cider vinegar that is unfiltered, unheated, and unpasteurized with 5% acidity. Its available on the Internet on their website for about $5 but you have to pay shipping. I found it at Fred Meyers (or Kroger) for about $5.99 (and no shipping charges!) in their naturals section. Just keep in the fridge when you open it. Plus makes it go down a little easier.
Order it through Bragg

Or just pick up a bottle where you can find it. Whole Foods or New Seasons are also great places to find organic apple cider vinegar.

Now what are you waiting for ? Try it out yourself. If my children can do it, you can too!

Homemade Goodness *Corn Chowder*

Corn is in full season right now so stock up on it. I picked up corn today at The Pumpkin Patch 6/$1. Can you believe it? Crazy low prices. I bought 30, brought them home and then realized that I had to somehow do something with it all. lol. Yikes! Here are a few idea's:
1. Cut corn off, lay on a cookie sheet, freeze it, then put in a freezer safe container.
2. Freeze whole corn as is in freezer safe containers.
3. Eat it.

We decided to make corn chowder tonight and it was amazing. My kids ate it up so fast. My husband even enjoyed it and that's saying a lot. He doesn't like soup at all but since this was so thick, it really wasn't soup. So try this out and enjoy!

Corn Chowder

2 1/2 cups corn (cooked or not frozen or can is fine)
2 cups of diced potato's
1 tbsp butter
1/4 cup onion diced (or green onion)
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 1/2 hot water
2 cups of milk (or reconstituted milk)
1 tbsp flour
Combine all ingredients into one big pot except milk and flour. Cook until potato's are tender. Add milk and flour and let cook for 10 minutes on low heat. Let set for 3 minutes and serve. Serves 4-6 people.
Garnish with shredded cheese or green onions.

Did ya know?

Have you heard the rumor about small peeled carrots having bleach on them right? Well according to the FDA, carrots are rinced in (now preserved) chlorine wash to kill bacteria (like salmonella and E. coli) which cause foodborne illness. Most precut produce, including frozen veggies and fruit salad, is washed wth this or a similar sanitizer. In any case, its just not good. Bleach or no bleach. I would reccomend buying organic produce whenever possible or grow your own. I grew my own carrots this year and they are so sweet. I reccomend growing your own.

Another interesting fact is about FREE RANGE eggs. Did you know its still possible to not be "free range"?The USDA allows chickens to be labeled as such so long as they have outdoor access. Which could be grass or a paved yard. Also these birds might have been debeaked, a painful procedure notorious on factory farms to prevent pecking at other birds.
Instead a better choice is poultry products labeled pasture-raised or bearing the certified humane raised and handled stamp, which indicates that birds have sufficient shelter and engaged intheir natural behavior. Which means they will foraging for food such as grass and grubs and these will birds will have less fat than their factory-farmed counterparts and they produce eggs that burst with vitamin A and heart-and brain-healthy omega-3's.
One way to get by this is to find a local farmer to buy fresh egg's from them. If you dont know of any, start asking friends and family members. Usually someone somewhere knows of a place. This way you get to see where the chickens live, what they are fed, and you know your getting a fresh egg.

Find it jar project

I stumbled upon this amazing site with so many great idea's for keeping your children busy without media involved. Its called "Unplug your kids" and their motto is "Living a TV free life....with a few crafts and books thrown in." I spent an hour just browsing through the site in amazment. That is how I found this cute easy to do project. Check out her site and get lost in it too.
http://unplugyourkids.com/

First you need to do colored rice. To do this, check this link out to get the easy directions. You can find this rice pretty cheap in bulk. The cheapest rice you can find is just fine because your not going to be eating it.

Then once you do that project, your onto the "Find it jar" project. This project can be made in many ways, just cater to what you have already. Or go through a neighbors recyling bin (ask first lol). Then have fun making this with the kids.

How much fun would it be for your children to find things in this jar? Just thinking about it gets me excited and ready to go buy some rice. I can just imagine my children playing with this, the looks on their face when they find something would be priceless.

Is it (really) worth it just to be free?

Every day I get up and start my morning blog routine. I check all my favorite blogs, read up on the current deals, and try to find all the good ones for you that are actually free. I really wanted this blog to be just about saving money and getting things for free with no strings attached. Now this could mean just a good old freebie from a store, or you can do this and that with this coupon on this day with this sale. See what I mean? Its confusing. I personally do not go through 10 steps of getting anything for free. Yes, I will use the occasionally free coupon I am sent but other than that I really do not do it. To me its way too much work to get something for free.

I read a ton of blogs and most have the current sales, matched with current coupons, and sometimes you have to use them on certain days. I just cannot see myself running around to all these stores just to get this one tiny item for free. Did you notice that the item for free usually is not even healthy? For instance, Capri Sun (10 pk) you can get at Walmart for 49cents with a coupon. Capri sun is full of sugar, you cannot recycle the container, and your children will want to drink that over good old water or healthy juice. See what I mean? Do you really want to bring home all that free stuff that is not healthy?

Now lets talk about the gas money it takes just to get that freebie. Its one thing if I actually need many items from that store, but if its just for one tiny free item...See what I mean?
The thing that really gets me is when you have to buy 3 of a particular item just to get one for free. I would say its okay if its cereal, who doesn't need lots of cereal especially when you have kids. But lets say its bars of soap. I mean really, how fast can you go through bars of soap? To me its not worth it. Now this is just a example, I'm sure you can think of lots of stuff you really do not need a ton of.

Here's one thing you might not think of. Ink. More and more companies are having coupons sent through emails or on their websites. I LOVE this option but also do not like it. Ink is so expensive. I started printing out the coupons but then realized quickly that you cannot change the printing strengths. When you print out something you want off the net, you can change it to draft and use less ink. Well in "most" coupons sites or companies sites, you cannot change it and also have to print pictures with it. So basically you waste a ton of ink. Now was printing out those coupons worth the $60 worth of ink you used? To me this is not a good trade off. So now I will only print coupons that are for a "free" item. Meaning use that one coupon and get it free at any store.

There are a lot of restaurants that offer free deals too. Arby's has free with purchase items each week, Wendy's sends emails with free items, and McDonald's has free fries and drink with the purchase of a burger. Yes this is a good deal if you eat at these type's of fast food joints. We do not eat at these places so to me its a waste of money. I am too worried about some teenage kids getting revenge on any customer giving them the eye, and getting sick. Maybe I'm paranoid....yeah I am. Only because I worked in these places in high school and saw lots of things. I myself never did anything to any ones food, but I "saw" lots of stuff. Hint hint. This is why I stopped working for the fast food joints. Yuck! So I save lots of money by just not going to these places. Remember, you have to buy something just to get that item for free. More money from your purse. I usually have a snack pack anytime we leave the house. Its full of dried fruit, nuts, crackers, water, etc. Things my kids can eat and get by till we get home. If we do eat out of the home, its usually healthy food from a store. Example:A piece of fruit, yogurt and a roll. My kids know the routine and pick what kind of fruit, flavor of yogurt or type of roll they want. They love it and I feel good about it.

Now this is just my opinion, and we live different lives. You might have a busy lifestyle and don't have the time to plan ahead. So to some, these things are worth the effort. I am not one to judge. I just try to offer options. That's what I do. I help you save money. You can take the advise or leave it. Your option. But I hope you at least get some sort of advise from all this rambling.

Like FREE FOOD? And FREE SHIPPING?

For the first 500,000 new customers who sign up with Schwan's, you get $10 worth of free food. Yep, absolutely free!
Register with them for free, order $10 worth of product, go to check out, and get your free food delivered for free too!
Why are you waiting? Go now!

I must say that Schwan's has the best veggies Ive found. We have been hooked on their frozen corn for a few years and didn't realize how amazing it was till we moved and I didn't order it again. I bought and tested SOOO many different ones from so many stores. Nothing compared. They all tasted tasteless. Yuck! Schwan's corn is so sweet and yummy and I miss it so much. I ended up ordering their coffee today but only because I am almost out of coffee and am too cheap to spend $10 for a small container for it. Usually I find dented can's of it on sale for 50% off or will hit up a good sale. But I have not found either so decided to get it through Schwan's since it was FREE!!!
Schwan's is an amazing site. You just pick what you want, order it, they deliver it. Super easy and you can have it delivered when you want it. When we used to live in our old town, our Schwan's guy (we call him Schwan guy lol) would come once a week and just ask us if we needed anything. We would order right from him, almost 100% of the time he had it. We have yet to find anything we didn't like. Plus he usually would come on my bake day (I think he planned it that way lol) so he would show up right after I cooked them and I would send him off with lots of homemade goodies. We miss our Schwan guy! So hopefully this new guy will be just like him.

I forgot to mention another plus. Sometimes the Schwan's truck drivers park on the side of the road and offer super good specials. One time they had ice cream 50% off, and another time they were just having a discount on everything. I LOVE when they do this. You get super deals and don't pay for shipping.

So have I given you enough reason to try them out? Hurry and be one of the first 500,000 new customers to sign up!
